Sometimes, all we need is a little more laughter in our lives. After all, adulting is a serious business that can bring a whole lot of stress and responsibilities. Crying babies, utility bills, nagging managers… if you often find yourself trying to escape reality by hiding in the closet with a tub ofRocky Road, we don’t blame you— life can be really tough!
At such times, it’s perfectly normal to wish that we could go back to being kiddos again - totally free of responsibilities without a care in the world. Though it might not be possible for us to go back to those good times - unless someone has a time-travelingDeLorean, of course - it can be possible for us to bring those happy feelings back into our lives again. How? With yoga!
Yoga has a ton of incrediblebenefits, including:
In addition to all of these great perks that come from taking up yoga, another great benefit is that it can bring a whole lot of laughter: especially when you practice funny yoga poses. What the heck are funny yoga poses? We’ll tell you.
Here are some of the funniest yoga poses for your chi:
The Knee-to-Ear Pose takes the already funny-lookingPlow Pose and pushes it a step further. And considering the fact that your head practically disappears into your body, this one can also look a wee bit creepy. That being said, it provides an unbelievably amazing deep stretch in the spine, and since your head is shielded from outside distractions, the pose can be super relaxing.
Also called the Yogi Squat, theGarland Pose is a very grounding pose, so it’s great to do when you’re feeling a little anxious or you need to calm down a bit. Of course, you’re getting a huge stretch in your groin and hips, but you’re also going to release your lower back from the pain of sitting. It also provides some much-needed TLC to those forgotten muscles around your ankles.
While the Garland Pose is super popular among yogis everywhere, we can’t help but laugh because when you perform the pose, it looks as if you’re taking a dump. Yup, we know - kinda gross. However, we guess it makes sense seeing as “Mala” in “Malasana” (Garland Pose in Sanskrit) literally means excrement or sh*t.
Happy Baby is a super comfortable pose, but if you ask us, it looks pretty gosh darn scandalous —as you lie on your back, put your legs in the air, and simply grab your feet. Perhaps a better name would be the “HappyBoyfriendPose” (wink, wink).
Happy Baby gently opens and stretches your hips, inner groin, and back while putting your spine into a delightfully lengthened position.
Want to snap a few goofy selfies? Give the Embryo Pose a whirl! The name means “Embryo in the womb” (garbha = womb, pinda = embryo), which is especially funny considering a bunch of ancient yogis came up with the name during a time when there was no way of knowing what was going on inside of a pregnant mama’s belly.
The pose involves almost tying yourself up in a knot as you place your hands through the hole between your raised and crossed legs. It will stretch out your legs, improve your balance, enhance your core strength, and challenge you not to break out in laughter. Goodluck!
Ok, so this one surely requires more respect than laughs, but you really can’t deny that seeing a human being fling their legs out over their elbows is undoubtedly hilarious. An awesome way to challenge arm strength and open up the hips; if you master this tough pose, give yourself a nice pat on the back because not very many people can do it.
Arguably the funniest poses of them all: Irish Yoga Poses. Not sure how to do them? Don’t worry - they’re fairly simple. All you have to do is grab your pals, a bottle of goodwhiskey, and start drinking. From there, theposes will come naturally to you. Just don’t forget to snap a few pictures as proof of mastering the art of ~Irish Yoga~.
And there you have it - the funniest yoga poses for your chi! Whether you decide to drop it like it’s hot with the Garland Pose or tease your S.O in the Happy Baby Pose, these giggle-worthy poses are sure to leave you smiling from ear to ear. And once you’re done getting your “om” on, pour yourself a shot of whiskey and give some of the Irish Yoga Poses a whirl.
Ah, yoga and booze— relaxation at its finest!
