8 Spooky Halloween Drink Recipes and Cocktail Ideas

For the haters: there's no escaping it now... Halloween season is upon us. And for the spooky season-obsessed: relish in the following weeks of everything pumpkin-spiced-and-cobweb-covered; we love it too. Now we will say aside from the costumes and yummy food, Halloween has something else we all love and enjoy: the parties and spooky-themed drinks. It's honestly a win-win: if you hate Halloween, the best thing you can do is sip on some weird-colored cocktails to forget your woes, and if you love it... well, then more reason to celebrate with some fancy drinks. We're here to help inspire you for this year's Halloween drink ideas and trust us; no one will forget about your party if you serve any of these:

Witches Brew

Witches Brew

The most Halloween-ee character of them all, am I right? I mean, witches are basically the mothers of Halloween, so they've got to be honored in some way (aside from the 25 witch costumes we'll be seeing at every party). This drink's neon green color is not for the faint of heart, but it actually tastes quite mellow and sweet, definitely on our top 10 list. To make it, you'll need Midori (a Japanese melon liqueur), Triple Sec, Fresh lemon or lime juice, and dry ice if you want to give it some extra flare. Instructions? Easy, just mix all these ingredients (except for the dry ice) with ice cubes, strain them into a lowball glass, and then add that dry ice to make it bubble and smoke. Basic witches, we know this is your favorite season and is about to be your favorite drink. We also know you need aBasic Witch t-shirt this October.

Sleepy Hollow Cocktail

Sleepy Hollow Cocktail

Nothing like a Sleepy Hollow Cocktail to celebrate the season's bloody nature. We have to admit this one's pretty creepy, but once you get over the blood-red color, it's really nice. Plus, you look pretty cool drinking it. To make it, you'll need to boil honey, water, a fresh sprig of rosemary, and the zest of one orange. Once the syrup is ready, the cocktail is made with pomegranate juice, tequila, a couple of dashes of orange bitters, and some cinnamon. Once those ingredients are all mixed together, pour a couple of spoonfuls of your syrup over it, and you're good to go!

Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

You didn't think we'd leave Bloody Marys out of this list, did you? It might be a Halloween cliché, but that's because it's an absolute classic. The color, the name, the slightly spicy taste... it just screams Halloween. Our favorite thing about this one is that you don't have to use Halloween as an excuse, you can have it all year round thanks to this lovely invention called brunch.Sunday-funday, right?

To make a good bloody mary, pour vodka, lemon juice, and tomato juice into a jug full of ice. Add some shakes of Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco, and then a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix it up and strain it into tall glasses garnished with celery and lemon.

Frozen Frankenstein Cocktail

Frozen Frankenstein Cocktail

You can't go wrong with melon + apple liqueur, in our opinion. This creepy cocktail takes 3 parts lemon sparkling water, 1 part apple liqueur, and 1 part melon liqueur. To give it an even more unique color, add a drop of black food coloring. And of course, a couple teaspoons of sugar for some sweetness. If you don't get your Frank on with this drink, it's probably just because you aren't wearing yourGet Your Frank On t-shirt.

Jack-O-Lantern Cocktail

You might think pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns are given too much hype, but you're wrong: there is no such thing as too much hype around pumpkins. That's why this Jack-O-Lantern Cocktail will undoubtedly be a star at your Halloween party. Ingredients? Mix one part orange juice with two parts ginger ale, then add 1 1/2 oz cognac and 1/2 oz orange liqueur. The color is as Halloween-ee as it gets, and the taste is fire. It has double the effect if you wear yourFeeling Pumpkin Spicy hoodie while drinking it.

Boneyard Cocktail

We saved the best for last. If you can convince your friends to drink something this color, you've got yourself some brave friends. To make a boneyard cocktail, mix 1 oz of gin, 1 oz of rum, 1 oz of tequila, 1 oz vodka, 1½ oz of blue curaçao, and 2 oz of sour mix in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake it up and then strain it into glasses. Top with sparkling water and decorate however you like.
